Decision-making within the MHT are intentionally structured and inclusive, ensuring they align closely with the org's mission, values, and overarching goals.
Your manaʻo matters
In order for our community to take action to heal our ʻāina, uphold traditional practices, and determine how we make decisions as an island for present and future generations, we need your manaʻo and active participation.
Our membership will be the driving force and leadership to guide MHT’s actions and to ensure pono decision-making. It will take all of our generations: kūpuna, mākua, and our keiki and moʻopuna not yet born to accomplish this great work for our beloved Molokaʻi Nui A Hina.

WHAT TO EXPECT AS A MEMBER
TRANSPARENT COMMUNICATION
The trust maintains transparent communication channels to keep members, stakeholders, and the community informed about decisions, initiatives, and outcomes. Regular updates, reports, and publications, such as the annual report, are shared to provide visibility into the trust's activities and accomplishments.
Collaborative Decision-Making
COMMUNITY INPUT
Decisions are informed by the insights and feedback of the Molokai community, especially concerning matters like land management, governance, and cultural preservation. This inclusive approach ensures that decisions reflect the needs and aspirations of the local residents.
COMMITTEE COLLABORATION
Task-specific committees play a vital role in decision-making by researching various issues and proposing recommendations to the Board. These committees cover a range of areas, including land stewardship, cultural heritage preservation, and financial oversight.
MEETINGS
STRUCTURED MEETINGS
Regular meetings, both annual and quarterly, serve as platforms for strategic planning and addressing key issues facing the trust. These gatherings provide opportunities for robust discussion and decision-making among board members and stakeholders.
SPECIAL MEETINGS
Occasionally, special meetings are called to address urgent matters that require immediate attention. These meetings ensure focused discussions and timely actions to address pressing issues.

Board Leadership
The Board of Directors holds the primary responsibility for decision-making, ensuring that all actions align with the trust's mission and values.
Daily Oversight
The General Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of the trust to implement decisions made by the Board. This leadership ensures that the trust's strategic goals are effectively carried out.

Voting Members of the Trust will participate directly in the work and governance of the Trust, including electing directors, participating in meetings, and voting on other important issues.

As a voting member, you hold the power to shape the direction of the trust, participating in crucial decisions that impact our ʻāina, our community, and our shared future.
Through your contributions of time and resources, you actively support the trust's mission, strengthening our pilina with each other and perpetuating the legacy of aloha ʻāina passed down through generations.
But membership in the Molokai Heritage Trust is more than just kuleana—it's about our healing.
We have the unique opportunity for the community to buy back all of these lands that are in alignment with our vision for the future. It's about forging connections, sharing stories, and creating memories that weave the fabric of our island's identity.
Together, as members of the Molokai Heritage Trust, we are guided by our kuleana and recognize and assert our right to self-determination–to direct our own destiny as we steward our lands, mālama our people and honor our Akua.
